A few things to know.
Does Berth need special permissions?
Not for dock profiles. It writes Apple’s Dock settings the same way the defaults command does. Calendar, Reminders and Now Playing ask for access the first time you add those widgets.
What happens to my open apps when I switch?
Nothing, unless you ask. Each profile can open its apps or quit the others. Quitting asks each app politely, so it can save your work first.
Can I get my old Dock back?
Yes. On first launch Berth saves your Dock as a profile called Everyday. Switch to it any time.
Does anything leave my Mac?
Your docks stay in a file on your Mac. Widgets only talk to the service they show: Open-Meteo for weather, Yahoo Finance for stocks, CoinGecko for crypto, and any service you connect yourself. Connected keys live in your Keychain and are only used to read numbers. Clipboard history stays in memory and skips anything a password manager marks private.
How do I connect Stripe or Whop?
Click the widget, then Connect. Berth shows where to make a read-only key, you paste it once, and it tests the connection on the spot.
Can I move my docks to another Mac?
Export them as a JSON file in Settings → Backup and import it on the other Mac.
Why can’t I add Apple’s widgets?
macOS does not let other apps host desktop widgets, so Berth draws its own.
How do I install it?
Open Berth.dmg and drag Berth to Applications. It is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other app. A short setup takes about a minute.
How do I get Apple’s Dock back?
Choose “Use Berth’s Dock” in Berth’s menu to turn it off, or quit Berth. Apple’s Dock comes back right away, with your settings as they were.
